As part of the measures taken to prevent the massive spread of COVID-19 among the migrant population in our country, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Migration Institute (INM) of the Ministry of the Interior announce the following precautions for Mexican citizens repatriated from the United States:

1. Given the cancellation of flights under the Mexican Interior Repatriation Program (MIRP), the INM will increase its capacity for receiving our fellow citizens at various points of entry along Mexico's northern border.

2. To avoid the possibility of infecting the Mexicans with coronavirus during their stay in US immigration detention stations, the entry points—outfitted to conduct repatriations under the Local Repatriation Arrangements (LRA)—will extend their hours to assist those returning.

This is so that they are detained for as little time as possible. The repatriation process for vulnerable individuals will remain unchanged and LRA-compliant.

The National Migration Institute, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will maintain direct coordination with the U.S. agencies involved to ensure that the repatriation of these Mexican citizens is carried out in a safe, orderly, and regular manner.
