Mexico and the Central African Republic established diplomatic relations yesterday.  The joint declaration was signed by the permanent representatives to the United Nations of Mexico, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, and the Central African Republic, Ambroisine Kpongo.

The date marks the first anniversary of the Political Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in the Central African Republic, signed in Bangui on February 6, 2019. Mexico participates in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), is part of the UN Peacebuilding Commission, and has presented its candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2021-2022 term.

Mexico now has diplomatic relations with all of the African countries.  The current administration is promoting closer political, economic and cooperation relations with the African continent. This has included high-level visits in both directions, a closer dialogue with key actors on bilateral and multilateral issues of common interest, and cooperation projects focused on social development.
