At the International Conference
on Climate Change (COP 21) held
in Paris, France, 195 nations met to make
commitments in the fight against climate change, protect the environment and
advance sustainable development.
The Mexican delegation participated actively in the COP21 workshops and additional meetings. Over 100 countries, including Mexico, joined a coalition to give impetus to an ambitious and legally-binding climate agreement at COP21.
At COP21, Mexico’s development of synergies in three areas—climate change, biodiversity and fighting desertification—was evident.
France, as COP21 president, and the French Foreign Ministry praised Mexico for its Energy Transition Law and the progress this represents in the fight against climate change. Mexico has a law, a strategy and a special climate change program, and the Energy Transition Law will complete the legal framework for this issue.
