• President Peña Nieto conferred the Order of the Aztec Eagle, band grade,  on US adviser Jared Kushner for his contribution to bilateral relations between Mexico and the United States and his outstanding role in negotiating the new USMCA trade agreement.

Within the framework of the G20 Leaders’ Summit, earlier today, President Enrique Peña Nieto conferred the Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle - the highest distinction Mexico grants foreigners for outstanding services rendered to the nation or humanity - to Jared Kushner, Senior White House Advisor.

The Mexican government awarded the distinction, band grade, to the US official in recognition of his extraordinary contribution to bilateral relations between Mexico and the United States, particularly for his role in negotiating the new Trade Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC).

President Peña Nieto said that Jared Kushner was a key actor in guiding bilateral relations from the start of the new US administration. He declared that the White House Advisor enabled dialogue between the two governments to shift from focusing on divisive issues to others of great importance for the well-being of the two nations, such as security, migration and trade.

The president also declared that Jared Kushner played a central role in achieving the  new treaty and that as a result, today we have a historic agreement that will mark a major change in bilateral trade relations.

Lastly, the president congratulated Kushner on his decisive contribution to expand the dialogue, investments and collaboration in North America, for the benefit of present and future generations.

Jared Kushner (New Jersey, 1981), holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of New York and since March 2017, has served as Director of the Office of American Innovation within the White House.
