The two leaders discussed the joint work undertaken by their governments to strengthen political dialogue and identify new opportunities for collaboration in the energy and multilateral spheres.

They expressed their shared interest in increasing trade and investment.

The president acknowledged the Norwegian oil company Statoil, which, within the framework of the opening up of the energy sector, has committed investments of over $12 billion USD for hydrocarbon extraction in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

The two countries agreed on priority issues on the global agenda:

  • UN Reform
  • Implementation of the 2030 Agenda
  • UN Peacekeeping Operations as well as gender equality and the preservation of seas and oceans.

President Peña Nieto thanked the Prime Minister for her invitation to participate in the High Level Panel on Sustainable Economy for the Oceans and confirmed his acceptance.

Mexico offered its support to enable Norway to undertake cooperation projects with the Pacific Alliance, an integration mechanism of which Norway has been an Observer State since 2016.

At the end of the meetings, the leaders witnessed the signing of a Joint Declaration with the main bilateral advances and the establishment of new commitments to increase and diversify our trade and investment exchanges, and an Agreement on Fisheries and Aquaculture, focusing on the exchange of experiences involving the conservation and sustainable use of maritime resources.
