The meeting, held at the Foreign Ministry, was chaired by Foreign
Secretary Ruiz Massieu and Foreign Minister Morales, who discussed the
bilateral priorities for 2016, including implementation of joint agreements on
infrastructure, border sanitation, energy, tourism, consular cooperation,
security and migration. They also followed up on the agreements reached by
President Enrique Peña Nieto and President Jimmy Morales at the fourth CELAC Summit.
In addition, they agreed to hold the 12th meeting of the binational
commission in the second half of 2016.
During the meeting, Foreign Secretary Ruiz Massieu bestowed
the sash of the Order of the Aztec Eagle on Guatemalan Foreign Minister Carlos
Raul Morales in recognition of his work to give impetus to the bilateral
The Order of the Aztec Eagle, established in 1933, is the
highest distinction awarded by Mexico to a foreign citizen.
