The Ministries of the Interior and Foreign Affairs report that the migrant caravan moving through Mexico is made up of about 3,630 people, who today began to travel from Huixtla to Mepastepec, Chiapas as they continue towards the northern part of the country.  

With respect to the rest of the Central American migrants, the current totals as of 10:00 a.m. today of those voluntarily requesting assistance from the National Institute of Migration (INM) and the Mexican Commission for Refugee Aid (COMAR) are as follows:

1. Refugee applications processed: 1,743

2. People in shelters who have voluntarily decided not to request refugee status and have asked for voluntary repatriation:  116

The assisted voluntary repatriation is being carried out in accordance with the international standards established by the International Organization for Migration, with the goal of returning the migrants with full respect for their human rights.

In addition, the INM and COMAR personnel who are processing the refugee applications are continuing their work in order to be able to respond within the timeframe established by law.

Federal government officials reaffirm their commitment to ensuring that humanitarian aid continues for the people housed in the shelter at theTapachula fairgrounds that was set up exclusively for this contingency, and for those at the Siglo XXI (21st Century) immigration station, and they commend the state government of Chiapas for its assistance.
