Today, the Senate ratified the appointments of two ambassadors and a consul general for posts abroad, after their appointment by the President and approval by the joint commissions for Foreign Affairs and Asia-Pacific-Africa:

  • Mauricio Escanero Figueroa, as ambassador to Israel. He has been a member of the Mexican Foreign Service since 1982 and ambassador since 2014. He has served as Mexico's ambassador in South Africa; Alternate Permanent Representative to UNESCO; Alternate Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS); Consul General in Shanghai; and Deputy Chief of Mission at Mexico's embassy in China, among other posts.
  • Edmundo Font López, as ambassador to Malaysia and concurrent with Kiribati and Nauru. He has been a member of the Foreign Service since 1974 and ambassador since 1990.  He is currently the Chargé d'Affaires at the Embassy of Mexico in Bolivia. In addition, he has held several positions in the Foreign Ministry, and has served as ambassador in Colombia, India and Saint Lucia, and deputy chief of mission at the embassy in Italy. He was also Consul General in Barcelona and Rio de Janeiro.
  • Pablo Macedo Riba as Consul General to the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions. He has been a member of the Foreign Service since 1982 and ambassador since 2001. He is currently Mexico's ambassador to Israel. In the Mexican Foreign Ministry, he has served as Director General for the United Nations and as Director General of the Matías Romero Institute, among other posts.  Abroad, he has been Mexico's ambassador to the Czech Republic and has been posted to the Permanent Mission to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva and to the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, among other positions. He has given classes in International Organizations and International Humanitarian Law at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The ambassadors and the consul general will be entrusted with safeguarding the rights and interests of Mexico and all Mexicans abroad, and with promoting the government's foreign policy.
