The Foreign Ministry expresses its condolences after the tragic accident on January 12 in which three Mexicans drowned on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande while trying to cross between Piedras Negras, Coahuila and Eagle Pass, Texas. The individuals did not enter U.S. territory.

The Beta Group informed the Mexican Consulate in Eagle Pass, Texas that, together with the Mexican National Guard, they had recovered the bodies of three Mexicans from the State of Mexico.  Two additional Mexicans were rescued at the same time.  The Mexican Consulate is in contact with authorities on both sides of the border to follow up on the incident.

Mexico is following the lawsuit filed by the U.S. federal government asking the Supreme Court to allow Border Patrol agents to enter Shelby Park in Eagle Pass. It has been under the control of the Texas National Guard since January 11, which potentially impacts the assistance and rescue protocols for migrants.

The following phone numbers are provided for Mexicans who require consular assistance and protection:  CIAM: +1 520 623 7874 and the Mexican Consulate in Eagle Pass: +1 830 281 1952.
