In light of the end of the "Title 42" policy, the Government of Mexico, through the Foreign Ministry and its North America Unit, is reinforcing its consular assistance and protection strategy and actions.

From May 10-13, officials from the Directorate-General for Consular Protection and Strategic Planning, led by Director General Vanessa Calva Ruiz, will travel to the eleven Mexican representations on the border to assist with any cases that arise as soon as they occur. Foreign Ministry officials, together with the heads of the Mexican consulates in Texas (McAllen, Laredo, Del Rio, Eagle Pass, San Antonio, El Paso and Brownsville), California (San Diego) and Arizona (Nogales, Tucson and Yuma), will meet with immigration authorities in Mexico and the U.S. to safeguard the rights of all Mexicans and increase the warnings about the risks of crossing illegally, human trafficking, and the penalties for undocumented re-entry.

In addition, the Center for Information and Assistance for Mexicans (CIAM) will be strengthened. It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is the principal means of preventive protection in the U.S., and can assist in locating individuals who attempt the crossing.

On behalf of the Foreign Ministry, the North America Unit and Directorate-General for Consular Protection and Strategic Planning will take all necessary measures to enable the Mexican consulates on the border to assist and protect all those who need it, ensure their access to due immigration process and defend their rights and welfare.

The Government of Mexico reiterates its commitment to defend the interests of migrants and their families, and to ensure their right to due process and dignified and humane treatment.
