• This Friday, February 12, a new company was awarded the contract for the Foreign Ministry’s Mexitel telephone appointment service used by Mexico’s consulates in the United States and Canada.
  • The new provider will expand capacity and improve the quality of the service for citizens who need appointments in Mexico’s consulates for passports, consular IDs and civil registry documents.

On Friday, February 12, after the conclusion of an online public bidding process, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs awarded a contract for its telephone service that is used to make appointments in Mexico, the United States and Canada.

For the appointment service in the United States and Canada known as Mexitel, bids were received from seven companies. The contract was awarded to Bufete Empresarial GTI S.A. de C.V., which offered the most competitive price of the proposals that fulfilled the technical and legal requirements of the bidding process.

The new company began providing service on February 15 at 8:00 a.m. Central Time, and will gradually expand its systems and operator capacity to be able to answer quickly the more than 30,000 calls the telephone platform receives on a daily basis. This will benefit Mexicans who need appointments at Mexico’s consulates for passports, consular IDs and civil registry documents.

Appointments for consular services can be made on the internet, at https://mexitel.sre.gob.mx. In the United States and Canada, appointments can also be made by calling the Mexitel telephone appointment system at 1-877-MEXITEL (639-4835) and, in Mexico, 800-MEXITEL (639-4835).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to work on improving the Mexitel appointment system to benefit the Mexican community abroad.
