President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and U.S. President Joseph R. Biden Jr. held a telephone conversation this afternoon in which they agreed on stronger and closer collaboration between their governments based on mutual respect and shared expectations for the benefit of both societies. 

Speaking from Monterrey, the Mexican President congratulated President Biden on his recent inauguration and extended his best wishes for his administration. He expressed the desire of his government to work together on the broad bilateral agenda. 

During their cordial conversation, President López Obrador welcomed the recognition of the contributions made by the Mexican migrant community in the United States and reiterated Mexico's belief that the way to a lasting solution to the issue of migration is by promoting development in communities of origin. 

They agreed that both countries' teams would work together on a common approach to development and well-being. 

The heads of state discussed the challenge presented by the Covid-19 pandemic and stressed that effective cooperation between nations is needed to combat it. They agreed that their governments would collaborate to address the various challenges related to the global health situation.  

The president was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard, and Alfonso Romo.
