With regard to the 7.6-magnitude earthquake (on the Japanese seismic intensity scale) that struck the Noto region of the Ishikawa prefecture on the west coast of Japan on January 1, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that, according to official data, there is no record so far of any missing or deceased Mexican citizens. The following actions of  consular protection have been taken:

The Mexican embassy in Japan has published messages on its official social media accounts with the instructions of the Japanese authorities and the embassy's emergency telephone number. In addition, the embassy has established a database of requests received via email and the emergency telephone number from Mexicans located in the affected areas.

Throughout the night of January 2, the embassy answered calls from people in Mexico asking about relatives in Japan. It continues to assist with all requests.

Due to the tsunami alert issued after the earthquake, the Mexican embassy in South Korea has also published its emergency number in case anyone requires consular assistance or protection.

Both embassies will continue to monitor the development of these events in case any Mexican requires assistance. The phone numbers and contact information are listed below:
