- Mexico has now received two million doses of the Sinovac vaccine.
- This is the biggest shipment to arrive in Mexico to date.
- Another 500,000 doses of the Sputnik V vaccine are expected to arrive on March 22.
This Saturday at 6:36 a.m., Mexico received the third shipment of COVID-19 vaccines produced by the Sinovac Life Sciences Co., Ltd. pharmaceutical company. The shipment of one million doses will contribute to the progress being made in vaccinating the Mexican population against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
The vaccines shipped from the Beijing International Airport in China, and arrived at the Benito Juarez International Airport (AICM) in Mexico City on Cathay Pacific flight CX086 after stopovers in Hong Kong and Anchorage, Alaska.
Sixty-two members of the Mexican Army assisted with the arrival, transportation and security of today's shipment.
The Director General of Laboratorios de Biológicos y Reactivos de México (Birmex) SA de CV, Pedro Zenteno Santaella, received the vaccines at the airport, saying that, with this shipment, two million doses of the Sinovac vaccine have been received and that another 500,000 doses of the Sputnik V vaccine were expected to arrive on March 22, which will accelerate the speed at which people can be vaccinated.
The Undersecretary of Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights of the Foreign Ministry, Martha Delgado, reported that this is the largest shipment of vaccines that has arrived in Mexico to date. It is the result of the cooperation between Mexico and China, and is an example of our stronger ties with that country.
She added that various federal agencies have been working to ensure early access to the vaccines, and that this shipment is clear evidence that Mexico is receiving an ever-increasing number of vaccines.
"In this new stage, COVID-19 will not be able to spread. We will have the vaccines so that we Mexicans can protect ourselves from this severe pandemic," she said.
So far, 6,492,375 doses of vaccines have arrived in Mexico in 16 shipments on 27 flights, as follows:
