On behalf of the Mexican government, the Foreign Ministry congratulates the parties involved in the peace process in Colombia for the major step taken today in Havana, Cuba with the signing of the agreement between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP), which establishes special tribunals, reparations for war victims and a truth commission, and attempts to ensure that those affected will not be victimized again.

The agreement is another example of President Juan Manuel Santos’ firm commitment to reaching a definitive, strong and lasting peace for the people of Colombia.

Mexico also expressed its appreciation to the guarantor (Cuba and Norway) and accompanying countries (Venezuela and Chile) for their role in the process.

Mexico hopes that the efforts made by all parties will lead to a final agreement of all parties in March 2016, and reiterates its readiness to continue accompanying the people of Colombia as they move toward this goal.
