The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is closely following the temporary closures by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) of the border crossings at: Piedras Negras-Eagle Pass I (Coahuila-Texas), since November 27; Sonoyta-Lukeville (Sonora-Arizona), since December 4; and the PedWest pedestrian crossing at El Chaparral-San Ysidro (Baja California-California), since December 9, in addition to the inspections being carried out by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) at the Piedras Negras-Eagle Pass II and Ciudad Acuña-Del Rio (Coahuila-Texas) border crossings.

The Mexican Foreign Ministry has been in constant contact with CBP authorities at the federal, state and local levels to obtain timely information and to reestablish commercial operations at these crossings as soon as possible.

These unilateral measures will negatively impact trade and tourism in the region. Therefore, the Government of Mexico respectfully calls on the Government of the United States to immediately resume operations at these crossings in order to avoid significant economic losses on both sides of the border.

The Government of Mexico reiterates its commitment and continual efforts in the search for a more efficient, prosperous and secure border.
