The Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Finance concluded a series of visits to five member countries of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC): Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. The delegation was composed of the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Emeritus Carmen Moreno; Finance Undersecretary Gabriel Yorio; and Mexican embassy officials in the region.

The purpose of the visit was to strengthen relations with countries of the region and to promote trade and financial opportunities of mutual interest, such as infrastructure projects, market diversification and financial integration. The delegation met with their counterparts from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Finance, and with representatives of Arab sovereign wealth funds and investment authorities, among others.

The Mexican delegation explained the economic policy of President López Obrador and the infrastructure projects under development in southeastern Mexico, which focus on improving mobility, facilitating trade and energy. These projects include the possibility of investing in the Mayan Train, the Inter-Oceanic Corridor, the Felipe Angeles Airport and the Olmeca Refinery.

The delegation also met with leading business executives from sectors such as fintech, startups, food distribution and the automotive industry. At the same time, Mexican companies from the private sector met with their counterparts in the region.

At the conclusion of the visits with government officials and investors, specific trade and investment opportunities were identified in sectors such as food, water technology—especially desalination—extractive industries, tourism and agriculture. In addition, opportunities for cooperation in areas related to climate change were identified, such as in energy transition and the production of ‘green ammonia’ and ‘green fertilizer’.

During the visit, it was agreed to expedite the conclusion of double-taxation agreements, explore agreements to facilitate trade, and strategies to increase connectivity with Mexico in order to broaden and deepen binational cooperation.

Mexico’s embassies in the region provided valuable support for the mission, which advanced Mexico's relations in the Arabian Peninsula in order to contribute to the country’s development.
