- The "Mexico-Bolivia: 190 years of diplomatic relations" exhibition is inaugurated at the Matías Romero Institute
To commemorate the 190th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Bolivia, this morning the Director General for South America, Martín Borrego; the Director General of the Matías Romero Institute, Alejandro Alday; the Bolivian ambassador to Mexico, José Crespo Fernández; and the curator of the exhibition, Minister León Rodríguez, inaugurated the photographic exhibition “Mexico-Bolivia: 190 years of diplomatic relations.” The ceremony was attended by students from the República de Bolivia Middle School.
At the inauguration, the officials agreed on the excellent political and diplomatic relationship between the two countries, and recalled the historical milestones that are examples of the relationship of friendship and cooperation that has existed since the independence of the two nations.
The exhibition includes documents from the beginning of the bilateral relationship, begun on November 21, 1831 when the then president of Bolivia, Andrés Santa Cruz, addressed a letter to Anastasio Bustamante, vice president and acting president of Mexico, with the aim of strengthening the relationship between Mexico and Bolivia.
The exhibition also includes photographs and documents that are representative of the most salient moments of the diplomatic relationship, among them the official visit to Mexico by President Luis Arce; the acceptance of Mennonite families in Bolivia; and the political asylum granted to former President Evo Morales.
Today, Mexico and Bolivia have a modern relationship, with updated and institutionalized bilateral mechanisms and projects based on a shared vision of regional development and integration.
The exhibition can be visited from November 29, 2021 to January 7, 2022 in the Simón Bolívar Patio of the Matías Romero Institute (Republic of El Salvador 47, Historical Center, Mexico City), from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday. Admission is free.
