Ahead of the 2024 elections in Mexico, and in order to guarantee the political and electoral rights of the Mexicans living abroad, the Foreign Ministry is redoubling its voter registration efforts for those individuals who do not yet have their Mexican voter registration card.  The deadline for requesting a Mexican voter registration card abroad is February 20, 2024.

Starting October 20 and until February 20, 2024, Mexican citizens abroad can go to any Mexican embassy or consulate to apply for a voter registration card without scheduling an appointment.  This also applies to mobile consulates or consulates on wheels, and at consulates that open on weekends or outside of normal office hours.

Individuals with appointments for other documents can request or renew their voter registration card at the same time, without having to schedule an additional appointment.

To apply for a voter registration card at any Mexican embassy or consulate around the world, the following documents are required:

  • Proof of Mexican citizenship, such as your birth certificate or passport;
  • Photo identification, such as your consular ID card or an official identification document issued by a local authority; and
  • Proof of address, such as an electricity bill or bill of sale for your vehicle.

It only takes a few minutes to get your voter registration card, and it is free of charge. For more information about the required documents and about the 2024 election, see:  www.votoextranjero.mx . To locate your nearest embassy or consulate, see: https://miconsulado.sre.gob.mx/ubica-tu-oficina .

Additional consular services can be scheduled at: https://miconsulado.sre.gob.mx/
