The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) will promote the Culture Ministry's “Creative Seedbed Initiative for Music” to help promote Mexican culture with Mexicans in the U.S., announced Foreign Secretary Alicia Bárcena Ibarra.

Today, at the Los Pinos Cultural Complex, Culture Secretary Alejandra Frausto Guerrero hosted the members of the Mexican Foreign Service attending the 35th Meeting of Ambassadors and Consuls, giving them a tour of the complex.

“We are going to bring a Tijuana seedbed to see if seedbeds can be started with migrant children at the 53 consulates in the U.S. I believe that this is something wonderful that we are going to achieve,” said Foreign Secretary Bárcena.

Secretary Bárcena recognized the cultural work done by migrants around the world, whom she said she could symbolically call Mexico's cultural ambassadors abroad. "They (the migrants) always tell me, 'I left Mexico, but Mexico didn't leave me.' They have done wonderful things, especially the women,” she said.

Foreign Secretary Bárcena said it was also important to bring the art that migrants are creating and hold exhibitions.

In addition, Secretary Bárcena applauded the work done by Secretary Frausto at the Culture Ministry, and the close collaboration between both ministries, such as with the “My heritage is not for sale" campaign to repatriate Mexican artifacts from other countries.

Secretary Frausto spoke about the Culture Ministry's various projects that contribute "to the revolution of consciousness” that is transforming Mexico, mentioing Chapultepec: Nature and Culture; ORIGINAL: Mexican Textile Arts; and the Creative Seedbed Community Culture program, among others.

“While in other countries, there is violence, intolerance and war, in Mexico, we are firmly committed to peace.  We do this with our culture, in a very clear and committed way,” said Secretary Frausto.

She invited the consuls to continue publicizing Mexico's cultural diversity throughout the world with exhibitions and artists, both established and new, who are trained in the Creative Seedbeds, as well as the ORIGINAL artists.

“I want you to keep in mind the talented children in all our states.  We have 443 Creative Seedbeds in the country with 15,000 children and youths that are trained every day, transforming their daily lives into art... In ORIGINAL the true sovereigns of this land participate, which are the cultures of Mexico, and those who express through their creations our greatness as a country. In many cases, the community could live off of fair trade, international promotion, and sell outside of Mexico,” said the Culture Secretary.

Recently, the Foreign Affairs and Culture Ministries, together with the INAH, inaugurated the “Halo of splendor: The rematriation and conservation of cultural heritage” exhibition at the Matías Romero Institute.

Foreign Secretary Bárcena called on the diplomatic corps to publicize all of Mexico's cultural projects around the world and to defend Mexican culture.
