The first Mexico-Bangladesh meeting for bilateral consultations was held to advance the political dialogue, economic relations and cooperation between Mexico and the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

The two delegations agreed to promote a better mutual understanding and contacts between both societies, to strengthen the bilateral institutional framework and to develop the relationship.

In order to strengthen the bilateral legal framework, there are negotiations currently underway on information exchange and customs cooperation, academic research, diplomat training in both countries and cultural and educational exchanges. The conclusion of these negotiations will be promoted.

Mexico will seek to bring cultural exhibits to Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, in 2022, including one on the "Cultural Heritage of Mexico" recognized by Unesco, and a collection of paintings on amate bark paper.

At the meeting, opportunities for future cooperation on public policies on gender equality and tourism were discussed, in addition to other areas of interest to the two governments.

Both parties welcomed the recent signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Mexican Council for Foreign Trade West (Comce Occte) and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI). They underscored the great potential of both markets for Mexican and Bangladeshi companies. Mexico is the main destination for Bangladesh's exports in Latin America (2020), while Bangladesh is Mexico's 15th-ranked trading partner in Asia-Pacific.

The meeting was co-chaired by the Director General for Asia Pacific,  Claudia Franco, and the Director General for the Americas of the Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh, Mr. Toufiq Islam Shatil.  Also attending the meeting was Mexico's ambassador to India, concurrent with Bangladesh, Federico Salas, and the Ambassador of Bangladesh in Mexico, Abida Islam.
