• Undersecretary Delgado reported that Mexico will receive  4 million doses of various vaccines this week, including those that were fill-finished nationally.

During this morning's press conference led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the Foreign Ministry's Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights, Martha Delgado, reported on the progress made in supplying COVID-19 vaccines to the country.  On behalf of Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard—who is on a trip to Russia—she said that this week Mexico will receive about 4 million doses of various vaccines, including vaccines that have been fill-finished nationally.

Regarding the most recent shipments, she said that 3,219,220 doses arrived last week.  From April 20-26, Mexico received ready-to-use Pfizer and Sputnik V vaccines, and enough antigen for more than 700,000 doses of the CanSinoBio vaccine.  In addition, the first shipment arrived from the multilateral Covax facility, of which Mexico is a party, and more than half a million doses of CanSinoBio fill-finished nationally were released.

This means that so far Mexico has received 22,110,885 doses of COVID-19 vaccines.  That number will increase between today and May 3, with the arrival of about 4 million doses of the Pfizer, Sputnik V and CanSinoBio vaccines.

Undersecretary Delgado said the government expected at least 12,446,782 doses to arrive in May, from five different contracts with Pfizer, Sinovac, CanSinoBio, Sputnik V and Covax. The doses from Covax will be the AstraZeneca and University of Oxford vaccines.

Lastly, the Undersecretary said that Foreign Secretary Ebrard is reviewing Mexico's contracts with the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology and Russia for the Sputnik V vaccine. He is also exploring the possibility of fill-finishing the vaccine in Mexico in the coming months, in the Birmex laboratories.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conducts a foreign policy that prioritizes the health of the Mexican people, and it reaffirms its commitment to contributing to universal, timely and equitable access to the COVID-19 vaccine.
