Foreign Secretary Luis Videgaray met today with the Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Gebran Bassil, to deepen the friendship and cooperation between both countries.

The two officials discussed bilateral, regional and multilateral issues. They reaffirmed the excellent political dialogue between both governments and agreed to give impetus to the economic relationship, trade and investment, with the participation of both countries' business communities.

Foreign Secretary Videgaray acknowledged the valuable contributions of Mexico's Lebanese community, which totals about 500,000, to the country's political, economic, social, cultural and scientific development, and its important role as a bridge between the Mexican and Lebanese societies.

Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil visited Mexico to take part in the Lebanese Diaspora Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean in Cancun, Quintana Roo from November 24-25. The conference was hosted by the Foreign Ministry on behalf of the Mexican government.

Mexico and Lebanon established diplomatic relations on June 12, 1945.
