On behalf of the Mexican government, the Foreign Ministry mourns the death of former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl.
Mexico conveys its condolences and sympathy to the government and people of Germany and to the family of the former leader.
Considered the architect of German reunification, Helmut Kohl was Chancellor from 1982-1998, including the period of German reunification from 1990-1998. Chancellor Kohl also gave great impetus to the process of European integration.
Former Chancellor Helmut Kohl made an official visit to Mexico in 1984, an event that strengthened relations between our country and the Federal Republic of Germany. His second visit was during the 1986 FIFA World Cup Final.
