Foreign Secretary Luis Videgaray met with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting. The G20 is the leading forum for international coordination of economic and financial policy.

During the meeting, the two officials reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties and expanding cooperation between Mexico and Germany.

Secretary Videgaray stressed that the level of political dialogue and the economic relationship between Mexico and Germany have intensified considerably in recent years. He also commented on Mexico's recent presence at the Hannover Messe industrial trade fair as Partner Country (April 23-27, 2018), which will further strengthen ties between both countries' business communities.

Secretary Videgaray and Minister Maas exchanged views on the international situation and agreed to redouble their efforts to collaborate on multilateralism, human rights and free trade to create economic growth and development.

In 2017, Germany became Mexico's third largest trading partner worldwide, with trade reaching USD 23.373 billion. Germany is also Mexico's seventh largest investor worldwide and ranks fourth in the European Union, with cumulative investments of USD 18.754 billion (1999-2017). There are more than 2,000 companies with German capital in Mexico and they have created over 120,000 jobs in our country.
