During his visit to Peru, Foreign Secretary Luis Videgaray met with President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski to discuss the dynamism of the bilateral relationship as well as regional issues.  He also met with Vice President Mercedes Aráoz Fernández, reaffirming Mexico's interest in continuing the high-level dialogue and in giving impetus to the strategic relationship.

Foreign Secretary Videgaray and Foreign Minister Ricardo Luna co-chaired the second meeting of the Mexico-Peru Strategic Partnership Council, which assesses the actions taken in the various areas of the relationship, defines how to strengthen the existing bilateral ties and looks for new areas of cooperation.

The council evaluated the political, economic and cooperative aspects of the relationship and heard the results of the second Mexico-Peru Civil Society Forum and the migration and consular affairs cooperation group.

The two officials signed the Final Act of the Strategic Partnership Council and the 2017-2018 Consular Cooperation Program that will improve the exchange of good practices and the attention given to citizens in third countries. They also witnessed the signing of a bilateral consumer protection agreement.

Foreign Secretary Videgaray gave Foreign Minister Luna the act relating to the return of 168 pre-Columbian artifacts that were illegally taken from Peru and recovered in Mexico.  

Lastly, Foreign Secretary Videgaray attended the inauguration of the International Book Fair of Lima, where Mexico is the guest country of honor. 

Peru is the second most important destination for Mexican investments in Latin America and the Caribbean, with about USD 14 billion in total.  In 2016, bilateral trade totaled USD 1.96 billion, and more than 70,000 Mexican tourists visited Peru.
