Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard  and Finance Secretary Carlos Urzúa took part today in day one of the G20 Leaders Summit in Osaka, Japan on the instructions of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. The first two plenary sessions were held on the global economy, anti-corruption measures, innovation and the digital economy. 

Mexico also attended an additional event convened by Japan on the digital economy and e-commerce. In addition, Secretary Ebrard participated in the Summit's formal segments and protocolary acts.

Both secretaries held talks with leaders on the first day of the Summit. Foreign Secretary Ebrard took part in a joint meeting with the presidents of Argentina, Mauricio Macri; Chile, Sebastián Piñera; and Spain, Pedro Sánchez. He also held meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Canada, Chrystia Freeland; India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar; and Singapore, Vivian Balakrishnan; and the Chief of Staff of Argentina, Marcos Peña. 

These conversations between senior officials focused on the global challenges on the G20 agenda, as well as bilateral issues. In addition, Secretary Ebrard presented the Comprehensive Development Plan for Central America, in response to the shared interest in finding synergies and additional areas of collaboration among donors.

On the second and last day of the Summit, the Mexican delegation will take part in the final plenary sessions on social inclusion, sustainable development, climate change and the environment.

The G20 is comprised of 19 countries and the European Union. Together, the G20 members represent 85% of global economic output, 80% of global investment, 75% of international trade and two thirds of the world's population.
