Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard today convened the first ever meeting between the Mexican Association of Economic Development Secretaries (AMSDE) and the diplomatic corps accredited in Mexico to find opportunities for investment and trade, and to publicize the regional and sectoral potential of Mexico's states.

The foreign secretary said the event was "the beginning of new efforts to promote Mexico's states, all of which make up the country and are important for Mexican diplomacy."

The meeting was attended by the economic development secretaries and representatives of all 31 states and Mexico City, as well as ambassadors and representatives of 88 embassies and 44 international organizations accredited in Mexico.

The AMSDE members highlighted the specializations, priorities and potential of Mexico's various regions. They identified projects strategic to the development of their regions as well as what each state offers in terms of possible exports. They also discussed opportunities for investment with the diplomatic corps accredited in Mexico in strategic areas of the Mexican economy such as the automotive, industrial, energy and food sectors.

During the meeting, the diplomatic corps also learned about the Inter-oceanic Corridor project for the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, in which over 150 billion pesos will be invested in infrastructure over the next six years.

In line with the instructions of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the aim of the Foreign Ministry is to attract foreign investment by promoting Mexico's states around the world. During the current administration, the Foreign Ministry will be a facilitator and bridge between global opportunities and local potential, in order to continue improving the wellbeing and development of all Mexicans.
