The Tenth International Affairs Book Fair was inaugurated today at the Matías Romero Institute (IMR). The event was led by Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard and IMR Director General Alejandro Alday.

The International Affairs Book Fair is organized annually by the IMR to showcase publications related to foreign policy and to promote reflection and an exchange of ideas.

In his remarks, the Foreign Secretary said, “faced with such a changing world and with new challenges, we have to stay up-to-date and thinking about how to guide Mexico's actions. One very important guideline are our norms and Constitution, our tradition, and the other is the reflection that is carried out here. That is why this Book Fair is very important."

He said that, for the first time, embassies are participating and they “have done us the favor of sharing the reflections of their institutions on their countries' foreign policy. So now it's a dialogue about how we define Mexico's foreign policy in terms of the new challenges we face, and it is also a dialogue about other thoughts regarding foreign policy.”

More than 40 exhibitors are participating in the book fair, including universities, publishing houses and, for the first time, think tanks and embassies in our country. The three-day program includes presentations of books and magazines on foreign policy, diplomacy, international law, human rights and migration.

Secretary Ebrard also participated in the book presentation of  "10 años de la Reforma en materia de Derechos Humanos" (10 Years After the Human Rights Reforms," coordinated by Raúl Contreras of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and Alejandro Alday of the Foreign Ministry.

In his remarks to the audience, the Secretary said that the “close relationship between Mexico's laws and foreign policy is the foundation of our foreign policy and legal values; they will always work together for good, that is the Mexican tradition and today we are very close.”

The book presentation was attended by Raúl Contreras and Sergio García from the UNAM Law School and the Foreign Ministry's Legal Advisor, Alejandro Celorio.

In addition to this book, which was co-published by the UNAM Law School and the Foreign Ministry, this year's program also includes a book entitled "Diplomáticas mexicanas" (Mexico's Women Diplomats) coordinated by Patricia Galeana, as well as the play “La fiesta se acabó: Por qué siempre perderemos la guerra contra las drogas sintéticas” (The Party Is Over: Why We Will Always Lose the War on Synthetic Drugs” by American author Ben Westhoff.
