Migration is the brave manifestation of people’s determination to overcome adversity and seek a better life. Given the increasing number of migrants who die en route while being smuggled to a new location, UNODC Mexico launched its “Smuggling of Migrants: #NegocioMortal" campaign.

Article 3 of the Protocol against the Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Sea and Air, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, defines the smuggling of migrants as: " ... facilitating the illegal entry of a person into a State Party of which the person is not a national or permanent resident in order to obtain, directly or indirectly, a financial or other material benefit."
The smuggling of
migrants has become a deadly
business operated by groups seeking to profit from the decision of thousands of
people around the world to migrate, without any respect for their rights
and dignity. Mexico joins the fight to make this deadly trade—that strengthens
organized crime—disappear. Learn more
