The Permanent Commission of Congress ratified today the President's nominee for ambassador to Colombia, Blanca María del Socorro Alcalá Ruiz.

After ratification, the ambassador took the oath of office.  Foreign Secretary Luis Videgaray thanked the Permanent Commission for its assistance with the appointment.

The newly-ratified ambassador is currently a Senator and Vice President of the Senate Executive Committee. She has been President and Secretary General of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (PARLATINO), Vice-President of the Organization of World Heritage Cities and Vice-President of the Ibero-American Council for Strategic Development of Cities.

Blanca María del Socorro Alcalá Ruiz holds an undergraduate degree in international relations from the Universidad de las Américas Puebla, a masters degree in public administration and is a PhD candidate in public administration from the Veracruz Public Administration Institute.
