As a result of the commitment of the Chihuahua onion sector to preserve high safety standards in the production and marketing of the vegetable, during the last year Senasica certified 36 production units in Contamination Risk Reduction Systems (SRRC, by its Spanish acronym), of the 99 operating in the state.
The recognition provides assurances to Mexican consumers and trading partners that Chihuahua onions were grown and packaged under appropriate processes to minimize the presence of physical, chemical or microbiological contaminants in the vegetable.
During 2022, Senasica technicians made 510 visits to evaluate the hygienic-sanitary measures applied by more than 50 production units and 12 packing houses, in which they took more than 258 samples to rule out the presence of bacteria such as Salmonella and Escherichia coli, with no positive results.
It is important to emphasize that Senasica's certification in terms of safety provides producers with access to a list of reliable onion suppliers, so that they have greater opportunities to enter more and better markets nationally and globally.
