Citrus is a basic agricultural product in Mexico because, in addition to being a substantial part of the population's diet, it generates a significant number of jobs and income for more than 24 Mexican states.
That is why, for 15 years, Senasica has been operating the Campaign against regulated citrus pests, whose purpose is to carry out exploration and control activities for pests and diseases such as leprosis, canker, the coffee aphid and the Asian citrus psyllid, a vector that transmits the bacterium Candidatus Liberibacter spp. to the trees and causes Huanglongbing (HLB).
Because of its rapid spread in various regions of the world and because there is still no cure for this disease, HLB represents the greatest health threat to growers, which is why dozens of technicians from the Ministry of Agriculture are implementing permanent measures, including biological control and holistic management, in addition to promoting appropriate agronomic practices.
A very important part of the sanitary strategy is to produce healthy plants under existing protocols and promote the development of science and technology to achieve greater control of the disease, with the participation of researchers and technical specialists.
