Within the framework of the Alliance for Food Safety, the health agencies of Mexico and the United States work in a coordinated manner to optimize laboratory processes, and thus expedite attention to outbreaks of diseases associated with food that are marketed, in order to protect consumers in both countries.
Currently, Senasica and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are collaborating in the investigation of the outbreak of hepatitis A that has occurred in states on the West Coast of the United States.
Since 2022, Senasica's technical specialists have been in charge of sampling in several strawberry producing companies in Baja California and so far no scientific evidence has been found to demonstrate the presence of hepatitis A in production units in the state.
In order to strengthen the safety of Mexican strawberries, Senasica and the National Association of Berry Exporters (Aneberries) agreed to form a technical working group to explore areas of opportunity in the production and packing processes in the field, The objective is to encourage more and more producers, packers and traders of strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries to apply in their production systems the Good Practices and Contamination Risk Reduction Systems promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture.
