In order to address global health threats, such as highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) AH5N1, high-level experts, animal health officials and industry representatives from 32 countries in the Americas reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen the mapping of wildlife diseases in the region.
EIn Mexico City, the representatives called for joint efforts through technical, scientific and diagnostic collaboration to safeguard food safety, commercial activity and the assets of producers.
The experts recommended the use of vaccination of long-lived and breeding birds as an additional tool in the strategy for the control of HPAI AH5N1 outbreaks, which have occurred in some regions of the American continent since 2021.
They emphasized that each country is responsible for applying efficient biologicals that demonstrate protection against the HPAI variants that have occurred, on the condition that adequate epidemiological surveillance is provided to verify the absence of the disease in inoculated animals and the inability to infect other birds.
