In order to recognize the work of professionals who throughout their careers have contributed to the prevention, control and eradication of pests and plant diseases in Mexico, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development invited official and private institutions, teachers and groups related to agriculture to nominate candidates for the National Plant Health Award 2023.
The call, published in the Diario Oficial de la Federación (DOF, by its Spanish acronym) by the Servicio Nacional de Sanidad, Inocuidad y Calidad Agroalimentaria (Senasica, by its Spanish acronym), indicates that candidates for the award must be Mexican nationals and have at least 25 years of experience in the phytosanitary field.
The highest recognition for phytosanitary professionals in Mexico consists of two categories: the first recognizes Scientific Work, in which phytosanitary professionals can participate for their work and dedication in the area of scientific research that have achieved results that contribute to strengthen the Mexican phytosanitary status.
The second category distinguishes the Phytosanitary Merit and is awarded to professionals who through their work in the field have achieved results in the improvement of plant health in a production region of the Mexican Republic, and includes the areas of training, training of phytosanitary technical professionals under the non-school system, or who have excelled in the organization of agricultural producers for the attention of sanitary problems in the country.
Applicant institutions must submit the candidate's curriculum vitae and a summary of the candidate's professional achievements, with a maximum of five pages, which must be classified in the areas of prevention, control and eradication of plant pests and diseases in Mexico.
The proposal must be addressed to the head of the General Directorate of Plant Health of Senasica, with the legend "National Plant Health Award 2023", in addition, it must clearly state the category in which the candidate should be considered.
The deadline for submitting candidates is May 15 of this year, with a tolerance index for those applications received late, with postmarks prior to the stipulated date.

For the selection of the winners of the National Plant Health Award, there will be a panel of judges, made up of experts in phytosanitary matters, chaired by the General Director of Plant Health, who will have the casting vote in the event of a tie.
Once the final and irrevocable decision has been issued, the winners will be notified and the result will be made public through Senasica's official website.
The winners in each category will receive a medal, an economic incentive and a diploma with the signature of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Víctor Villalobos Arámbula.
