Varicoceles occurs between 15 and 25 years of age, with an incidence of 15 to 20 percent in men. It manifests as a dilatation of the veins that are found in the spermatic cord, along with discomfort or pain at the scrotal level.

This condition is more frequent in the left testicle and in some cases may be associated up to 40 percent people with infertility problems.

According to the head of the Department of Urology of the Juárez Hospital of Mexico, Omar Hernández León, there are three degrees of varicoceles: the first of them goes unnoticed, since it is not observed and much less felt; in the second degree, when it is touched, the vein dilatation can be verified and in the most severe degree, the three, the scrotum is observed as if it were a bag of worms.

Hernández León explained that a patient with varicocele in grade three is a candidate for a varicocelectomy, surgery that consists of locating, ligating and sectioning the testicular veins dilated abnormally. The main cause of this condition, he said, is a defect in the valves found in the veins.

The recommendation to the male population is to practice self-examination to detect any abnormality and in case of presenting, go to the doctor to be channeled to the urology service.

Another recommendation is to use tight underwear or athletic supporters, as they keep the testicles compressed and favor veins return.
