President Enrique Peña Nieto participated in the second day of work at the 25th APEC Leaders’ Forum in the city of Da Nang, Vietnam.
The president attended the dialogue of APEC Leaders with Christine Lagarde, Director of the International Monetary Fund and subsequently participated in two formal sessions and a working lunch.
First session, “Innovative growth, inclusion and sustainable employment in the digital era”:
- He addressed the challenges facing the economies of the region in order to move towards sustainable, inclusive growth and stressed the importance of working to facilitate trade and improve the business environment to achieve this.
- The leaders discussed the vision and priorities that should guide the formation of the Post-2020 Agenda for the development of APEC.

Second session, “New engines of regional trade, investment and connectivity”:
- President Peña Nieto spoke about the importance of continuing to promote free trade to strengthen the processes of Asia-Pacific integration, and the need to make trade more inclusive, so that it benefits everyone.
- He said that it is essential to strengthen the capacities of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), so that they can successfully participate in global value chains.
