Rural women were also honored on the occasion of the International Day of Rural Women, celebrated on October 15.

Mexico confirms its commitment to reducing extreme poverty through strategies such as the National Crusade against Hunger and support for the countryside, where most production is for on-farm consumption.

Support for producers is therefore designed to enable them meet their food needs and earn additional income.

Since women play a key role in these efforts, the acknowledgement of rural women also involves recognizing them as an example and pillar in their homes and drivers of change in their communities.

San Felipe is one of the five municipalities where  CONEVAL conducted an evaluation to measure the results of the National Crusade against Hunger, whose results demonstrate the effectiveness of the strategy.

The population of this town with food shortages fell from 61.4% to 55% according to CONEVAL’s recent survey.
