Measles is an infectious disease that causes serious complications such as pneumonia, brain or deafness damage and even death.

The population at risk are unvaccinated young children and pregnant women, but anyone who is not vaccinated can become infected.

A virus causes measles, it is very contagious because it spreads easily by coughing or sneezing and symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and a rash of red spots that starts on the head and it extends to the rest of the body.

The way to prevent measles is through vaccination. In Mexico is applied the vaccine "MMR" that protects against measles, mumps and rubella.

The first dose is applied at 12 months of birth and the second dose at 5 years of age in any health unit or when the child enters to the first grade.
