It is estimated that 10 percent of the population suffers from depression, a more frequent mental disorder of psychiatric illnesses.

Depressive disorder can occur from childhood and adolescence and the root causes are genetic predisposition, environmental changes, stress and obesity.

Characteristics:

  • Irritability, loss of interest in activities that were once fun, changes in appetite, lack of concentration, poor performance in school, weight reduction, fatigue, emotional instability and isolation.

This condition can become severe, especially when it is of long duration and goes from moderate to severe intensity, which causes suffering and alters work, school and family activities.

How to avoid it?

It is possible to prevent and detect it timely with psychosocial programs in schools, social support in communities, access to education and quality of housing.

Rehabilitation depends on the disorder of each person, based on pharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatments, as well as occupational therapy commensurate with the patient's abilities.
