At a ceremony held in the early hours of today at the official residence of Los Pinos, the president swore in Dr. Hernandez Martínez, and instructed him to continue with the implementation of Energy Reform, related to the electricity sector and to continue restructuring the CFE to strengthen its competitiveness.

He was also instructed him to ensure the continuity of the service in the National Electric System and to expand its coverage to isolated communities, through the use of new technologies.

He also asked him to maintain the financial strengthening of this productive state enterprise, continue the expansion and modernization of the infrastructure and improve the processes for improving service quality.

Until now, Jaime Francisco Hernández Martínez served as CFO of CFE.

He holds a PhD in political economy from the Department of Government at the University of Essex, in the UK, and a master’s in political economy from the same university. He completed a BA in economics at the National Polytechnic Institute and studied law at the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

Prior to being CFO at CFE, he served as Director General of Planning and Budget B of the Finance and Public Credit Secretariat.

Throughout his career at the Finance and Public Credit Secretariat, he represented the Secretariat in the governing bodies of various institutions in the energy, financial and education sectors, among which the CFE itself, the Institute for Electrical Research and subsidiary agencies of Petróleos Mexicanos.

Dr. Hernández Martínez has been a member of the Governing Board of the National Council of Science and Technology, the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas  (CIDE), El Colegio de la Frontera Norte, and several development banking institutions. He also collaborated in the Technical Secretariat of the Economic Cabinet and the Coordination of the President’s Economic and Social Policy Advisors.
