President Enrique Peña Nieto met with the US-Mexico CEO Dialogue and thanked the Business Coordinating Council and the US Chamber of Commerce for promoting business cooperation between the two countries.
He said that since 2013, the governments of Mexico and the United States have been working on a multi-thematic agenda that goes beyond security and migration by incorporating issues such as education, entrepreneurship and cross-border infrastructure.
As for economic cooperation, he said that it is thanks to mechanisms such as the High Level Economic Dialogue (DEAN) and the CEO Dialogue itself that the two countries have jointly constructed a platform of integration, competitiveness and growth.
He added that since what is good for Mexico is good for America, both countries must continue to work together to be more productive and competitive, and generate more growth and job creation.
In this respect, he said that, “Free trade is a positive force for welfare and development,” which, “increases people’s freedom, because it offers them the opportunity to choose between different goods and services”. He added that, “It is linked to other freedoms of the individual and therefore to democracy”.
At the end of the meeting, the president expressed optimism about the future of the relationship with the US and repeated his commitment to working closely with that country to make North America the most competitive region in the world.
The US-Mexico CEO Dialogue was created in 2013 by the United States Chamber of Commerce and the Business Coordinating Council. It seeks to facilitate trade between the US and Mexico as a key element in improving the competitiveness of business economic stability and growth in both countries.
