President Enrique Peña Nieto led the Swearing-in of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism, 2016-2017.

For over 98 years, CONCANACO-SERVyTUR has facilitated dialogue and collaboration between traders, service providers and tourism operators with the authorities of the three branches of government. Today, its Executive Committee and Board of Directors begin a new cycle, under the direction of Enrique Solana Sentíes and his team.

During the event, the Triqui Children of Oaxaca, members of the indigenous children’s basketball team were presented with an award as part of Let us Speak Well and Act Well for Mexico Program.

“All of today’s winners are examples of talent, perseverance and self-improvement. You reflect a Mexico that has evolved over the decades, but above all, a Mexico that has speeded up its transformation in recent years.”

Removing barriers: Figures-2015

As a result of structural reforms, innovative public works and infrastructure works, Mexico now has a stronger platform to promote the country’s growth and development; even in the current scenario of the world economy.

- The GDP grew by 1.3 percent in 2013; 2.3 percent in 2014 and 2.5 percent in 2015. This rate exceeds the performance of some of the largest economies.

- In 2015 the Gross Domestic Product in the service sector increased by 3.3 percent.

- Trade grew by 4.5 percent, confirming that the domestic market is expanding and has been one of the main engines of growth.

- The Tourism Sector registered record figures in 2015. 32.1 million international tourists came to Mexico, 37 percent more than the number in 2012.

Formal employment continues to rise. According to the latest figures of the Mexican Social Security Institute, 142,291 formal jobs were created in February. This is the highest number for February since monthly records began to be kept. Formal employment therefore grew at an annual rate of 3.8 percent.

- Prices are stable. INEGI reported that inflation in February stood at 2.87 percent. This is the lowest for February for 46 years.

- There is a higher consumption in the country. In December, private consumption grew at an annual rate of 5.2%, the highest rate for this month in 11 years.

- In February 2016, sales of department stores and self-service stores that had been operating for a year experienced annual growth of 9.6 percent, and in the case of total stores, annual growth stood at 12.5 percent.

- In the first two months of this year, 230,463 vehicles were sold in Mexico. This is the highest number of sales in the country recorded in the first bimester since 1988.

“All these figures reflect a reality: Mexico enjoys stability and has an increasingly strong, expanding domestic market. To continue this trend, the government’s priority is to maintain the conditions of macroeconomic stability.”

“I invite all the companies that form part of CONCANACO-SERVyTUR, its hundreds of thousands of members, to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the reforms to boost their productivity and competitiveness.

More jobs continue to be created for Mexicans; more opportunities are being opened up, and you are an important part of this collective effort, which we are achieving for the good of Mexico.”
