President Enrique Peña Nieto met with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping prior to the G20 Leaders’ Summit.
China is Mexico's second largest trading partner worldwide and the third market for Mexican exports.
Mexico is China’s main Latin American trading partner. In 2015, trade between the two countries stood at $74.9 billion USD.
President Peña Nieto hailed the signing of the China-Mexico Investment Fund for investment in various projects involving over $50 million USD. He also welcomed the fact that the flow of Chinese visitors to Mexico continues to increase, since between 2014 and 2015 it rose by 30 per cent.
The leaders discussed the importance of improving air connectivity, adding that work is underway to authorize direct flights between Mexico and China.
