As part of the commitment to the pursuit of truth, on the government’s initiative, technical assistance was requested from the Inter-American Human Rights Commission.
This unprecedented openness was achieved through the creation of the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts; thanks to their support, we now have more elements to clarify these deplorable events.
The results of the report presented by the Interdisciplinary Group of Experts will be assessed by the Attorney General's Office (PGR), which will determine the advisability of incorporating these investigations.
And if there are differences with the investigations carried out by the Attorney General's Office, they will be able to be resolved through the new top level expertise that will provide greater certainty on what happened there.
As a result of the PGR’s investigations, 110 people have already been arrested and we will not rest until all those responsible for this deplorable event are brought before the law.
The case remains open, the investigation continues, the search for the student teachers is underway and the judicial branch will determine when it should end and the conclusions should be presented.
I have instructed the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs (SRE) to arrange with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to extend the Group of Experts’ mandate, in order for them to complete their work.
I confirm the unwavering willingness to be close to the victims’ families and support them permanently; I support their desire to discover the truth, not only as president, but because Mexican society so demands.
