• This afternoon, he will visit the building that will house the Casa de México in Spain and witness the signing of an instrument for the promotion of the Spanish language.

On his fourth and last day of activities in Europe, President Enrique Peña Nieto paid a visit to Madrid, Spain, where he held a meeting with Prime Minister of Spain Mariano Rajoy. They reviewed the status of bilateral relations and exchanged perspectives on the modernization of the legal framework, particularly the Agreement on Economic Association, Political Agreement and Cooperation between Mexico and the European Union, as well as regional and global issues.

Accompanied by his wife, Angélica Rivera de Peña, President Peña Nieto met with HRH King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain. Among other issues, the heads of state discussed the joint efforts by Spain and Mexico to disseminate and promote the Spanish language.  

This afternoon, the president will visit the building that will house the Casa de México in Spain, a symbol of the mutual interest and reciprocity that exists between the two countries. This initiative involves the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs, the Secretariat of Culture/INBA, ProMéxico, the Tourism Promotion Council of Mexico and civil society organizations. The Friends of the Casa de México in Spain network, Banamex Cultural Promotion and Cinépolis-Yelmo will also participate.

The Casa de México in Spain is a project for economic, cultural, tourist, gastronomic, sports and business innovation promotion. It will contain a Fondo de Cultura Económica bookshop, a multipurpose auditorium, a Mexican restaurant, a gastronomic classroom, an exhibition hall for artists and workshops, as well as a hall with a permanent exhibition of Mexican folk art.

Within the framework of his visit to the Casa de México in Spain, the president will witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries to undertake activities that will promote the Spanish language internationally. This agreement is part of the mutual recognition of Spanish as a symbol of shared identity and common heritage for both countries.
