The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports the following regarding the distressing death of Victoria Salazar Arriaza, a Salvadoran citizen, on March 27 in Tulum, Quintana Roo:

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been in ongoing communication with the Salvadoran authorities and has followed up on the case in coordination with the Ministry of the Interior; the National Migration Institute; the Quintana Roo state government, attorney general's office and Executive Commission for Victim Assistance; the National Commission for the Prevention and Eradication of Violence against Women; the Child Protection Unit of the federal attorney general's office; and the Children and Family Department of the office of the attorney general of Quintana Roo.

As a result of this inter-institutional work, Ms. Salazar's remains and her two daughters were flown to El Salvador on Saturday, April 3. The girls were delivered by the Quintana Roo Children and Famiy Department to the mother of the deceased, who had traveled to Mexico for this purpose.

Mexico's ambassador to El Salvador, Ricardo Cantú, received the mother of the deceased and her daughters at the San Salvador airport and coordinated the delivery of the remains of Victoria Salazar to the Salvadoran authorities.

The Government of Mexico reiterates its firm commitment to continue working to ensure effective access to justice and reparations for Ms. Salazar's family, and to ensure that events of this nature do not occur in the future.
