Today, Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Carmen Moreno and Philipp Ackermann, Director General of Political Affairs at the German Federal Foreign Office, co-chaired the third Technical Committee for Political Affairs in Berlin as part of the third Mexico-Germany “Alliance for the Future” Binational Commission.

During the meeting, both representatives applauded the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Germany and expressed their desire to revitalize the political exchange at all levels. They highlighted the solid foundations of the ties between the two countries in the political arena.

Both parties confirmed their readiness to continue working intensively on deepening economic relations. They agreed on the importance of concluding the Mexico-European Union Modernized Global Agreement as soon as possible to enable it to enter into force.

The two delegations reiterated their commitment to multilateralism for addressing the challenges of the contemporary world and to deepening their dialogue on the issues of peace, the rule of law and regional stabilization, climate change, renewable energies, the environment and biodiversity. The two countries are member states of the United Nations and belong to such important forums as the G20. The 3rd Technical Committee agreed to resume regular intergovernmental consultations on multilateral and United Nations issues.

Regarding cooperation on cultural, scientific, technical and innovation issues, the delegations welcomed the productive and intense contacts between the two countries and welcomed the bilateral consultations that will take place this year in Mexico.

Undersecretary Moreno then met with State Secretary Andreas Michaelis, with whom she discussed regional issues of interest to Mexico and Germany.

With these meetings, Mexico and Germany reaffirmed their commitment to continuing their high-level political dialogue and continuing to promote exchanges that benefit their societies.
