The Government of Mexico is following the events in Myanmar with great concern and joins UN Secretary-General António Guterres in condemning the arrest of the country's political leaders. In addition, it calls on all parties to restore as soon as possible the legal and democratic channels for building a domestic consensus and achieving the hopes of the Myanmar people for peace, democracy and sustainable development.

As a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, Mexico will support multilateral and regional actions to make progress in this area, and will support the actions of the UN Secretary-General that lead expeditiously to an inclusive and constructive dialogue. Mexico reiterates its stand in support of the peaceful settlement of disputes, with full adherence to international law and human rights.

The Mexican Embassy in Singapore, concurrent with Myanmar, has contacted the small Mexican community registered in Myanmar. It has strongly recommended that they avoid participating in or getting near to any demonstrations or areas of conflict. It will continue to monitor events as they unfold.
